Becky Ancira Robertson is a resilient founding member of MaskTogetherAmerica driven by her personal journey with Long COVID since June 2020. During her recovery from a spinal surgery after a car accident, she was exposed to COVID when attending cognitive therapy. Since she was in the middle of a lawsuit, it was mandatory for her to attend the group therapy, at a time when most parts of the U.S. were under lockdown. Her surgical mask didn’t protect her from the airborne virus, which gave her a wide range of chronic conditions that damaged her organ systems. Becky also infected her cat and her daughter, who also developed Long COVID.
As a steadfast advocate for public health, Becky has tirelessly championed the usage of high-quality masks and proactive mitigation measures to protect communities from the ongoing impacts of COVID-19. Her unwavering commitment to raising awareness about Long COVID stems from lived experience, fueling her mission to educate and empower others.
Despite her endless struggle to recover, she volunteered as a producer for MaskTogetherAmerica, teaming up with Founder Julie Lam in making PSAs for the organization’s social-media campaign when masking and vaccination were mandatory. Becky also joined the International Long COVID Awareness Group and helped lead the effort in dedicating March 15 as Long COVID Awareness Day. In addition, Becky co-hosts nightly Twitter/X Spaces with Dr. Joe Eastman to provide a virtual home for the Long COVID community, where advocates share updates, amplify science, support each other emotionally, and remind one another they are not alone.
As a member of the World Health Network, Becky has pioneered initiatives to promote safety and support, blending compassion with action. Her masked portrait symbolizes both her personal resilience and her call for collective responsibility in safeguarding public health.
