Meet Dylan Horowitz Director of Community Engagement of MaskTogetherAmerica

Dylan Horowitz is a social service professional with a lifetime passion for fighting for the underdog. Dylan attended Texas State University where he obtained a Master’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Multicultural Relations. Dylan is currently employed in the public sector where he facilitates safety and support services for vulnerable, at-risk populations. In his spare time, Dylan also serves on the volunteer board of a small non-profit that supports his municipal animal shelter. Whether through his work with humans or animals, Dylan strives to help those in need by giving them a voice, providing comfort, and advocating on their behalf.

Dylan strongly believes the COVID-19 pandemic is a social justice issue. Since early 2020, Dylan has promoted strategies to protect health and reduce transmission. For Dylan, masking is one of those strategies. Dylan thinks masking in a pandemic is a beautiful act of community care. It reminds people that they matter, keeps public spaces accessible to the high-risk, supports front-line workers, and encourages others to show the same kind of love in their own lives. Dylan believes every day is a chance to build the kind and caring world we all deserve.

Dylan lives with his husband and tiny animal farm in a small town outside Austin, TX. He has three dogs and a cat named Tabitha Smiley (who isn't very smiley at all).

WHAT I WANT TO BRING TO THE GROUP:

I hope to help MaskTogetherAmerica by finding ways to bring us together. As a queer person living in Texas all my life, I know a lot about difference but also how, beneath it all, every one of us has something in common: we're fundamentally human. While the pandemic has illuminated significant social disparities, it’s also shown the ways in which we’re all connected — leave it to an airborne virus to confirm that none of us exist alone! This is true both with regard to infection spread but also with regard to how we love and care for each other. And there has been so much care during the pandemic! I want this care to continue. I hope to help MaskTogetherAmerica by facilitating engagement, offering support, and promoting a community of care where everyone has a seat at the table.
