Betsy Woldman is an award-winning designer, photographer, social media marketer, and creator of #WearaMaskATX. Woldman spearheads an online community engagement project called Show Us Your Austin, using shared photos to begin visual conversations. She has been working on different ways crowd-sourced photos can be used to prompt action and change behavior.
Betsy began photographing Austinites wearing their favorite masks at the beginning of the pandemic. Her “Wear a Mask Austin Portrait Project” was created to inspire and encourage simple, highly effective preventive practices. The hashtag #WearamaskATX was created to encourage everyone to join with her in raising awareness.
Show Us Your Austin was incubated and sponsored through the City of Austin as a selected 2016 Innovation Project. Since then, over 4,500 photos have been uploaded and shared by a diverse group of Austinites through social media platforms. The images are soon to be part of a large scale photo mural in East Austin. Betsy’s passion for street photography stems from her desire to create social change. Her portraits give a voice to the voiceless, promote understanding, and bridge cultural divides.
